A distinguishing feature of Stockmar is their outstanding brilliance. The addition of pure beeswax and the lack of additives and fillers result in a high degree of opacity that is otherwise only achieved with watercolors. Stockmar crayons do not smear, crumble or stick and are 100% safe because of the high quality raw materials used. The blocks are often preferred for small children because they can be held so well in the hand. Applying the wax color to a surface particularly stimulates artistic creativity. Older children quickly learn how to color surfaces with crayons or how to draw fine lines with the edges of wax blocks. Stockmar has many techniques to use these crayons and blocks such as layering, melting and etching.
